A tiara is is like a crown. It is a jeweled ornament worn by women for formal occasions. What is the difference between a crown and a tiara? The crown is always a full circle, and the tiara is less than a full circle. The crown is taller and larger is is usually reserved for royalty. Tiaras are only supposed to be worn by brides on their wedding days, and by married women especially if the dress code is white-tie. Miss America wears one made of real diamonds for the crowning ceremony which is then substituted for rhinestone for other occasions.
