The Nighthawk was an attack aircraft, the first t to be designed around stealth technology. The general design of a stealth aircraft is always aimed at reducing radar and thermal detection. Its maiden flight took place in 1981 in Nevada, 64 were built by Lockheed Corporation at a cost of $111 million each, but it was retired in 2008 when other aircraft took its place. It is still taking test flights, however. Stealth aircraft often have skins made with radar-absorbent material which may contain carbon black particles or tiny iron spheres.
